AGM News

April 30, 2008

The Annual General Meeting for Holy Trinity was held on Sunday, 27 April. At that time five new council members were elected: Ted Dexter, Ann Hyde, Pat Fortune, Liam Ginn, and Catherine Gardie. Congratulations to each and all good wishes as you join a fine group of folks working very hard to support the church community.

Also at the meeting, Peter Vancanah finished and retired from his term as Church Warden. He worked diligently and devotedly for Holy Trinity during his tenure. Many thanks go to him for all of his efforts. And elected as new Church Warden was Geoff Treloar. Geoff has been on the Council for several years and will make an excellent Warden as well. Congratulations, Geoff.

Many thanks to all of these folks willing to work with and for Holy Trinity in so many ways.

Bunty

December 1, 2007

Easter CandleOn Thursday November 29, many friends and acquaintances gathered to take their farewell, within the context of the Requiem Eucharist, of Mrs Bunty Lepage. Bunty had died very peacefully on the Feast of Christ the King, and four days later tribute was paid to her by her family and friends in the church in which she played such a central part. Also remembered were her many works: with UNICEF, with the Hospital Visitors’ Programme, with Action des Chrétiens contre la Torture, were among the many things cited. But more than the things that she did was the person she was: faithful, loving, generous, guileless. For this, the appropriate response is thankfulness, and even at the grave, our song remains Alleluia.

Rest eternal grant + her, good Lord, and let everlasting light shine upon her.

St. Patrick’s Breastplate

June 3, 2007

On Trinity Sunday, 3 June 2007, the Dismissal Song was a hymn written by St. Patrick. The words are:

I bind unto myself today
The strong Name of the Trinity,
By invocation of the same
The Three in One and One in Three.

I bind this today to me forever
By power of faith, Christ’s Incarnation;
His baptism in Jordan River,
His death on Cross for my salvation;
His bursting from the spicèd tomb,
His riding up the heavenly way,
His coming at the day of doom
I bind unto myself today.

I bind unto myself today
The power of God to hold and lead,
His eye to watch, His might to stay,
His ear to hearken to my need.
The wisdom of my God to teach,
His hand to guide, His shield to ward;
The word of God to give me speech,
His heavenly host to be my guard.

I bind unto myself the Name,
The strong Name of the Trinity,
By invocation of the same,
The Three in One and One in Three.
By Whom all nature hath creation,
Eternal Father, Spirit, Word:
Praise to the Lord of my salvation,
Salvation is of Christ the Lord.

To hear the melody for these words, you can visit this site.

Remember that before St. Patrick went to do his great works in Ireland, he prepared for the priesthood in the monastery on Ile Saint Honorat just off the coast at Cannes.

Fourneau Economique: Please bring non-perishable foods the first Sunday of each month

June 1, 2007

The first Sunday of each month parishioners at Holy Trinity bring non-perishable food items to church to share with the Fourneau Economique in the Old Town of Nice. The Sisters there use the foods to prepare lunches four times each week (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday at noon) for between 70 and 80 persons each day who need a hot meal. We also give to the Fourneau the produce and collection from our Harvest Festival, as well as the proceeds from the Community Lunch following it.

When asked what sorts of food stuffs are most needed to prepare the meals, the Sister receiving the food from our parish said, “All non-perishable foods are welcome, though it is best not to send pork.”

Here is a short photo tour of the Fourneau Economique, a place of service to those in need. The address is 1, Rue Choeur, 06300 Nice.

Mingling in the garden

April 29, 2007

Each Sunday after the Eucharist guests and regular church goers meet for a glass of wine or cup of coffee in the church hall or, now that the weather is so beautiful, in the garden. It provides a wonderful atmosphere to visit and to get to know one another. As Holy Trinity serves an international community, folks from around the world gather together to worship and to get to know one another.

Church members work hard to make this opportunity possible–a very special “thank you” to them.
