Special music on 3 May
April 28, 2009On the Feast of Saint Philip and Saint James, Sunday 3 May, the musical setting for the Eucharist will be the Mass in G by Ralph Vaughan Williams sung by the Marble Hill Singers from London.
Composed in 1921 for unaccompanied double choir and soloists, the Mass in G minor is considered by many to be the finest a cappella Mass written by an English composer since the great Elizabethan composers, Tallis, Byrd and Taverner.
The Marble Hill Singers are the London-based Chamber Choir formed in 1988, who have made five critically acclaimed overseas concert tours to Holland, Paris, Madrid, Antwerp, Rome and Gibraltar.
The Conductor of the Marble Hill Singers is Helen Price who studied music at King’s College London and then at Royal Holloway where she gained a master degree in 2001. Helen works for national music organisations Youth Music and the Rehearsal Orchestra, and combines this with conducting a number of performing groups in the London area.
The service on Sunday, 3 May will begin as usual at 11 a.m.
